My thumb started hurting yesterday (really sensitive) and this morning i woke up and i had a shooting pain in my thumb as well as my arm. It actually causes me to jerk my arm. i also get a numb tingly feeling in my thumb and arm. I dont work with my hands and i'm only 21 so i don't know what it could be. My 9 mo. old son is quite heavy and i always hold him with this arm, do you think that could be causing this? Any input appreciated!

It's probably not carpal tunnel if only your thumb is involved. It could be de Quervain's tenovaginitis/synovitis. Look it up on the net. If your symptoms match, see a doctor. Treatment is not that difficult.

I have carpal tunnel in both wrists because I used to play the viola. I had almost the exact same symptoms as you describe. My doctor said that surgery would be bad because I'm so young, and it might not solve the problem 100%. He told me to fill up both sides of the sink, one with warm water and one with cold water, and submerge the hand/wrist that hurts in each side for about 5 minutes, switching sides for up to half an hour. I also use to wear wrist guards with gel inserts, the kind where you can either freeze them or put them in the microwave. Those helped A LOT.

Hope this helps, good luck with everything!

permit me help you choose for if it may desire to be Carpal Tunnel. The Median Nerve is in touch. It serves the thumb, the 1st finger, the 2nd finger, and the indoors 0.5 of the 0.33 finger. It does not contain the 0.5 of the 0.33 finger closest to the "pinky", nor does it serve the "pinky". So in the experience that your "pinky" is in touch interior the 'finger throbbing', it is not probable Carpal Tunnel. What to do? the way you carry the telephone needless to say needs to get replaced, and that i recommend utilising a earphone with a microphone, so as which you do no longer ought to hold the telephone. additionally, I recommend diet B-complicated, it incredibly is the B-6 which would be effectual for Carpal Tunnel. additionally, for a mushy muscle cramping, I recommend a dishpan with heat water and a fourth cup of Epsom Salts to soak your arm in, because of the fact the muscle tissues on your hand are on your forearm.

Sounds like you need to have the doctor check it out, as it could be something minor, but could become major if you let it go. I suspect that something as simple as a brace and some special exercises could take care of it, which is much better surgery later.

That really does sound like carpal tunnel to me also. Any repetitive movement will cause it. You should get checked out by a nerve specialist. But that will require going to your family doctor to get a referal slip. Good luck to you.

Are you sure it's not tennis elbow? Either way, I'd go to a doctor and get it checked...
