Its a bacteria. How you get it is generally from some one else who has had it. It is related to the same bacteria that causes strep throat except this is vaginal in nature. You should receive antibiotics during labor and delivery. My wife had something like this with our first one.

I would imagine that it would not be the best thing to have when your pregnant. But how it would effect the little one that much i don't know.

Group B strep is a certain kind of bacteria (germ) that lives in the vaginal or rectal areas of 1 out of every 4 or 5 healthy pregnant women. A woman who has group B strep on her skin is said to be "colonized" with this germ. For every 100 colonized women with group B strep who have a baby, 1 or 2 babies are infected with these germs while they're being born and can get sick.

You get IV antibiotics during labor and you are usually a-ok. My son got strep skin infection from birth called scarlet fever. Some antibiotics cleared that right up.

Group B strep is a bacteria located in the vagina. It's not harmful to you (you can just be a carrier and have no problems), but it can cause problems like pneumonia in the baby right after birth. Your doctor will likely put you on antibiotics during labor to prevent such problems.

It is something like strep throat but in your vagina. And it can be transfered to your baby through your birth canal and can cause blindness also some other problems. But if you have it they're going to give you an IV with medication in it to prevent it from making any contact with baby. I had it with my 2st pregnancy but this time 38 1/2 wks.
