Drink, party, and tend to want to fit in? I'm not saying there is anything totally wrong about it, but it seems like some people do it A LOT, and complain about cops, authority, etc. When do they grow up?

There's a little jump of irresponsibility during the freshman/sophmore because suddenly there's a whole lot of freedom and very little supervision. It's funny to watch freshmen come into my class and suddenly realize that I don't take roll.

About the end of the second or third term, the party-hardies have either flunked out or changed majors. Things pretty much settle down until the senior year. By then time management skills kick in and students can party and pass.

As to fitting in, that's a constant everywhere/everywhen. However, it's a lot easier to do in college because of a wider world.

Life has a way of teaching lessons. I recall when I graduated from NTID/RIT for my first degree back in 1978. All the guys in my frat, hearing and deaf, graduating and not, got bombed. We went out to the lake and a park. Talked under the moon and guaranteed we would solve the worlds problems. I can still recall freezing my *** off, and looking at the moon and telling all my frat brothers how I would resolve all the issues in the world. Close to thirty- five years later, twenty-three spent in defense work, look how many I have solved. Three more degree's as well. and working on three more. I have solved very little of the worlds problems. It is constantly developing new ones. But I have remained true to my basic beliefs in America, and what is just and decent in the majority of all us as Americans. Some times I have gotten drunk over those years when personal and national experiences got me there. But basically as you grow older the party mentality has less effect.

I am in college and I agree with you, there are a lot of people who still act like they are in high school. Hanging out in their little "groups" being loud and obnoxious. A lot of people do party and drink in college. Personally I don't, I'm there to get my education not to f*ck around all the time. Don't get me wrong I have my fun too but it's stupid to pay to go to college and then not get anything worth while out of it. Some people never grow up, I'm glad I already did!

To me, that was what people did in high school! My college experience did include some of the people you describe, but it was also full of bright, studious people and friends that liked doing service projects.

I don't see anything wrong with complaining about authority figures, though. People who don't are half the reason our country is a mess.

I think it depends on how the kids are brought up at home before they head off to college. I have always been open about talking to my kids as well as allowing them to safely get this stage out of their system. And now that my oldest is a freshman in college, she has told me that she has been smoking pot, drinking, and all that other stuff. She said it was no big deal for her and now she has moved on with her studies and is pulling close to A/B! So the ones that have grown up are out there -- they are just so hard to find because they are not out partying.

I know, its crazy. Its kinda like high school only MUCH worse.
The best way to deal is to avoid the kinds of people who think drinking makes them cool and to appreciate who you are as a person.
Thankfully, i survived without (over) drinking, (over) partying and wanting to fit in (overly so i should say lmao).
Sometimes these people never grow up...and just think, they could be our politicians now!

as soon as they get the money cut off. mommy and daddy are often the worst influence on a college student because they are usually giving more than the student needs and thus prevents them from becoming responsible adults.

They grow up sometime after college. It's how college students react to their sudden freedom, now that they don't have parents standing over them anymore, and when they graduate, they realize it's up to them to be the adult.
