China was very communist before. They had horrible food shortages because the farmers had absolutely no incentive to do well. They just had to meet a quota. Not too long ago, the farmers asked the central government if they could keep the excess crops they grew, above their quota, to sell for extra money. For years the central government resisted (because this is capitalism). Finally, the central government decided to try it on a small scale. The farmers suddenly cared about the crops like never before. They made sure they had an excess harvest. And guess what happened. Suddenly the quality and quantity of the food supply increased. The central government in China has been embracing capitalism on the economic side ever since.

i guess castro must not have been a communist because he described his coersive state socialist model in different terms.

while we're being churlish, you know dick cheney, donald rumsfeld and george bush? they're not "neocons". not a one of them.

re: locomonoh's simpleminded formulation:

its the next day. bill has 333,333.00, lou has 333,333.00 and alice has 333,333.00.

sorry, i mean bill has 110,000.00 because he had gamling debts before the government helped him out by bashing alice's face in with the but of a rifle and giving him a third of her money. he also posted some new bets. lou is only down to 250,000 because he's pretty level headed, but that's still a high rate of loss because lou is the father of a young child he won't tell the government about because it has a special disorder and the government has special institututions they put such children in where the government can better manage the respurces required to attend to their special needs. alice has 310,000.00. she's alright.

she's a little pissed two days later when the government comes to collect another 15,000.00 in regular taxes. to pay for the service they provided in overthrowing the previous government, stealing all the rich peoples' stuff and spreading it around equally. but she smiles a little knowing that now everyone's equally indebted to the government. when the government is done knocking on bill and lou's doors, bill has -25,000.00 (he lost his bet), lou has 175,000.00 and alice is still better off than the others.

two months down the road, the government is now collecting at a rate of 40,000.00 a week. people like bill have created a burden on both the ministries of health and internal security. as marvewlously concieved the plan was, no one anticipated people like bill, though they'd been there alll allong. lou can't afford it. he'd be brok by now except that he's gone back to work - illegally - doing automotive repair, a job the industry ministry claimed to have too many of despite the evident fact that only one third of the cars in the country are running. he does this not for the native courency, but for the currency of a neighboring country. alice maintains her lot trading in the same courency. she doesn't work. she goes out for the thrill, perhaps even the spite, of almost being caught selling things the government cannot provide and won't let anyone provide independently of the government.

alice has 225,000.00 dollars, 700,000.00 otherdollars. lou has always just better than 80,000.00 dollars which he converts from otherdollars to keep up appearances for the government. things are better for lou than they were right after the revolution. he lives a good stable, honest life and his kid gets regular care. the only difference is that now he, his kid and the doctor who cares for him are criminals now. bill doesn't get a monetary stipend anymore, but he doesn't mind. you can make alchohol from just about anything and the housing and food provisions allotted him are hardly worse than what others can get legally. often, because his rehabilitation and dependency are provided in lieu of a stipend like the others, he gets food rations before it goes to the federal "store" for "purchase". supplies often run out there.

another six weeks. the taxmen with their rifles: their uniforms are dusty, cuffs frayed. they sometimes steal your food when you're in the meeting hall cafeteria. they just come up, slap you across the brow, grab your tray and sit down to eat your food. they try to play it off like its jsut a power thing, but really, they're just hungry.

three months later, the government must arbitrarily drag one percent of people from their homes each day and execute them arbitrarily to keep the streets quiet. inside the federal offices are twelve special interrogation cells. alice in in one of them. her face is swollen and bloody.

the commandante strikes her again, asking the same urgent question:

"give us the name of the magical elf which gave you the million dollars!"

its an important question. there are only 100 days left.

Communism

Everyone shares the labor and shares the profit. A Utopian dream. Until you add human nature.

Except for lazyass who does as little as possible but still wants his equal share. Then the best worker thinks why am I busting my butt and getting the same as lazyass. So he works less. The beginning of the economic death spiral.

Example: Group projects.... A couple of people want good grades so they do all the work, and the rest of their group also get good grades.

Communism kills incentive.
If you cannot benefit from your labor, why do it?
If you benefit from other people's labor, why labor yourself?

you take money from successful people and give it to people who dont work. and you take it by force. In china they killed everyone who wore glasses. If they wore glasses, it meant they could probably read, if they read, they are probably educated, if they were educated they were a threat to the regime. this was the "peoples revolution" under Mao. In Russia, people who didnt follow along with the revolution, or who did but didnt belong to the correct strain of communism were put in gulags, and either worked to death or killed straight up. About 30 Million people died there in russia, 60 million people died there in china. communism is good at reducing the population of the country.

The Communist principle is that man must live for the state. It is socialism applied to economics.

"Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal collective good."

Communism is a system that makes everyone equally poor.

Bill has $5
Sue has $18
Tom has $1,000,000,000

The government takes all of their money and redistributes it equally, so:

Bill now has $333,333,341
Sue now has $333,333,341
Tom now has $333,333,341
