Well firstly, if you don't know much about monitors, check out the two articles near the bottom of the following Yahoo Tech page.

Articles are:
For Dummies: LCD vs CRT Monitors
For Dummies: Monitor Buying Guide

My wife has a 19" Dell and it is generally quite good. The only thing I really don't like about it is that is has a 500:1 Contrast Ratio. This means when viewing some text fonts, it is a bit saw tooth.

That would be my real note of caution on the Dell's. Make sure they are at least 700:1 or better.

Actually, I think you can find as good or better a deal at:

http://www.tigerdirect.com or possibly do more shopping at
http://www.pricewatch.com

You should be able to find some great deals with rebates.

If you shop some first, you'll find that the 17" and 19" flat panels are, for all intents and purposes, the same price these days so I would definitely go with a 19".

I have a 19" HANNS-G that is 700:1 contrast ratio and I really like it.

I got it on Tiger Direct. The good thing there is that they do provide you with all the tech data on the monitor and user reviews also.

Happy shopping. I hope this helps.
