I have a bad urinary tract infection. I always feel like I have to pee, and when I do it stings very badly, but only a little bit of blood comes out each time. I am not very sexually active, the last time I had sex was about a week ago and it was the first time in a long time. I am also on my period, and I accidentally left my tampon in for over 24 hours. Could that be how I got this UTI? I am not sure how I got it, but I don't know what to do to get rid of it without visiting a doctor. Please help! Thank you!

You MUST see a doctor to be put on antibiotics- if you don't, the infection can travel up into your ureters or kidneys- that will be much more uncomfortable than this. You can get a UTI from not wiping properly and spreading bacteria, it could be from your period, not changing underwear frequently enough, wearing a damp swimsuit, sometimes even wearing panties other than cotton ones can contribute to it. Call your doctor- it is usually just a pill you need to take once a day for 3 days.

Go to the doctor and get it taken care of before it becomes a kidney infection. UTI's can occur anytime bacteria gets into the urethra....sex (always pee right after), improper wiping, and yes, that tampon you left in. Some people are more prone than others. Although cranberry juice has been proven to be helpful in prevention, there is no current data that proves that it cures an infection once it has occurred. Don't be miserable, call you doctor and go in and give the lab a urine sample.

Having a lot of sex isn't the cause...it can be the kind of sex. They call it Honeymoon cystitis because it happens often to just married couples. You can have kind of wild sex, or the man may not be as clean as they should be or maybe you weren't. Bacteria can enter so easily. Always wipe from front to back to prevent it.
Now to treat it, you can try lots and lots of cranberry juice, pure if you can find it, not the coctail unless it's all you can find. Then drink lots and lots of water and then eat yogurt with live culture in it, read the label. Then you can wait for a few days, if it gets worse, go to DR. you may need antibiotic. It may be the sex is making it burn also, so give it a few days. Good luck.

This will not go away without an antibiotic. So you must see your doctor and soon! These things can get very nasty. I don't really think the tampin did it. You just get it sometimes. Drink tons of water and cranberry juice. Not the cranberry cocktail. You should not have blood in your urine either. Are you sure it was from your urine? Have your doctor check that also. Get well soon.

You need to be on antibiotics, so you have to visit a doctor. As for how you got it...its unlikely that you can pinpoint a specific reason. I had one before when I was in elementary school...long before i was using tampons or having sex. II wouldn't worry too much about it.
