hi, i've got about 5,777 fonts on my windows xp machine.
its a 1.5 ghz, 200 gig etc. etc. box

everytime i load photoshop or indesign its slow as heck to load and that never happends.
could it be because of the amount of fonts i have?

thanks to any comments

Thanks, i've been a pc tech for 12 years lol my whole life. for those that thought it was programs running , it isnt the pc runs fine. its just that when i load photoshop , or indesign it takes forever. i found that i had about 5,000 True type fonts installed. i've heard before that alot of fonts slow my pc down but wasnt sure about it. but i guess i learned the hard way lol. i removed alot of them and am down to 2000 TT fonts. and after that it seems to be running alot better. Thanks alot.

Move the fonts, or the vast majority of them, and then load again. I am speaking generally here but if you do something like this and start up adobe and it loads quicker, then the fonts are causing the problem.

YES!
The more fonts you have, the slower it will run. Fonts are VERY memory intensive, especially TTF fonts (True Type Font).
This has been known probably before the Windows 3.1 Days.

It doesnt slow windows per say down. It slows your computer down.

No it isn't. Check what loads of programs that are loading up in your start up menu first
