My doctor is lowering my dosage on a capsulated medication. Is it possible for me to open the capsules, divide the medication into the appropriate dose, and then recapsulate it? I kinda don't want to have to buy more meds since I already have a bunch.

I don't think it will hurt anything. It shouldn't matter if it a few grains off especially if you are lowering the dose. I have always done things like that.

If you are dividing it, I do not think you get exactly half the dose. However, if you diligently take the other half at the next due then you will make up for whatever you did not get in the first half.

In other words, I see why not. Make sure you do not contaminate the med.Try and do it in a clean environment.

I always buy only half the amount and/or half the strength of the what the doc prescribes. It works for me well everytime. I can always buy the other half when I need it. That's how I use my commonsense.

you can't divide it exactly. there are numerous fillers and such in the meds, so you don't know exactly what part med/filler you are getting. it is not a safe measure to save money.

Doesn't sound safe to me. Talk to your pharmacist-maybe something can be done.
