Has anyone else noticed how violent and gory all the scary movies are getting? I like scary movies as much as the next person but why have they gotten so violent? When did we become so desensitized that it has to have blood and gore all the way through not just to high light the movie's do you feel about scary movies? Like for example Hostil?? i rented it and could not even watch it it was all sex and gore. after twenty mins it was off.

Horror movies aren't the same like they used to be. It's still hard for me to watch movies like The Exorcist and Poltergeist and still be cool and calm afterwards. Watching movies like 13 Ghosts, Dawn Of the Dead, and 99% of the rest of crap that comes out now is only worth a lot of laughs. So unfortunately, yes we have become that desentized that every horror movie must be blood, guts and more blood.

Hostel wasn't that bad. Of course, that's coming from a boy who loves that kind of film. What you have to realise, though, is that there's a big difference between scary movies and slasher films. Moves like Saw or Hostel are Slasher, while movies like The Cave are scary. I'm not saying I don't agree with you, though. Not only is gore becoming a problem, but so is nudity. I havent seen a single R-rated movie in the past year that didn't have nudity to some extent. Luckily PG-13 hasn't stuped that low yet. Nowadays, chances are that if you don't want sex or gore, stick to PG-13 movies.

honestly movies haven't become that much bloodier and gorier. it's just that because of improved visual effects they just appear more real and don't have that cheesiness to them. I actually didn't find hostel to be that gory in comparison to older movies such as dead alive, or anything by Romero or argento. however today's movies do rely more on the gore aspect to provide horror than older movies, which i don't like.

Hollywood thinks that's what sells so that's what gets made. Everyone made a big deal about Gibson's "Passion" but where are the outraged cries now? Bunch of useless hypocrites !

yes, we really seem to be that desensitized, look at the popularity of the "Saw" movies. Not my cup of tea at all.
