Not all of them, but I TRULY believe that if they treated people with more respect, the whole country would be a better place. They are one of our most direct representatives of government, and it is sad that some of them abuse that position.
Write a letter to your representatives complaining of your troubles with police, and ask them to require more training on treating people in a smarter way.

When in their element (uniform, cruiser) cops need a huge ego to stay alert, and to project the image of authority expected of them. Like The Donald says "show me a man without a big ego and I'll show you a loser everytime." Whether agreed or not, in business/professions, it's pretty much true. Like the brain or cardiac surgeon who is highly intelligent and knows he is....you wouldn't want it any other way.
Out of uniform, cops are generally just normal, screwed up and confused and too often lonely or unhappy people who go around making mistakes like everyone else.

No, my brother-in-law is a cop in a very large city and he has virtually no ego. Great guy. I'm sure on the job he is a different person, but I've heard stories of the crap he's had to deal with.

Not all of them do. But I understand why you think so.
It takes a certain kind of person to be a police officer. It also takes a certain personality. That personality usually is self-assured, hard-edged, and tough-skinned. Hence, the face they show tends to look egotistical.

NO THEY DO NOT. I PERSONALY KNOW SEVERAL OFFICERS AN THEY HELP OUT KIDS AT CHRISTMAS , VOL AS EMT'S FOR THE LOCAL RESCUE SQUAD , AN ARE THE FIRST THERE TO GIVE BLOOD. NOT EVERY OFFICER IS BAD DO NOT JUDGE THEM UNTILL YOU RIDE ALONG FOR A DAY AN SEE WHAT THEY FACE.

it is training called in-control, they make you fear out of control manipulation, weapons, mace, bullets, back-ups, etc. they got funding and vests and hot cars, assertive training, yadda,yadda
but not all have to tear the dignity out of u but they got attitude
