I was just curious as to what is inside the briefcase in "Pulp Fiction" that is glowing every time we see a character from the movie open it?

It's never defined. According to Roger Avary, who co-wrote the script with Quentin Tarantino, the original plan was to have the briefcase contain diamonds. This seemed neither exciting nor original, so Avary and Tarantino decided to have the briefcase's contents never appear on screen; this way each filmgoer could mentally "fill in the blank" with whatever struck his or her imagination as best fitting the description "so beautiful". The orange light bulb (projecting shimmering light onto the actors' faces) was a last-minute decision and added a completely unintended fantastic element.

In a radio interview with Howard Stern in late 2003, Quentin Tarantino was asked by a caller the contents of the briefcase, and he answered, "It's whatever the viewer wants it to be."

I think it was GOLD bars. or some top dolla funky, hairy, sticky BUUUUD.

ever watch That 70's show? in one episode Hyde is given a movie container with bud from the stoner's cousin. And when he opened the container all you saw was a glow. that was to emphasize the potentcy and awesomeness of the weed lol.

in pulp fictions case it could have been ne thing from weed, cocaine, gold.

it is never stated and is is pretty much unknown. obviously it was worth something because those guys were planning to keep it. but the thing that i find most interesting is the combo for the case. 666. this makes me believe that it may actually be something that would give the holder power of some kind and that it is generally evil. by this i don't mean some mythical object but rather someone's body part (like rafferty's head in sin city), something to be used in blackmail, or something acquired in blood (like blood money).

Alfred Hitchcock called it the "McGuffin". The McGuffin is that thing that everyone in the movie wants but we never are told what exactly it is. We're not supposed to know what it is, just good guesses at most. But doing that is actually a cinematic device that Hitchcock gave the name to.

no one knows. Tarantino has never said. He wants the audience to come up with their own conclusions as to what's inside the briefcase.

I never thought of it being gold. It would be to heavy to carry around. I think its just a symbol of human greed. but who knows it might just be gold :)
