...many of the things that shape our perception can be summed up in these 3:

1 ) Environment (all around us)

2 ) Experience (all we've lived through)

3 ) Thought process

* thought process being the most important one, as it'll define our own interpretation of things. An apple wouldn't truly be an apple if u didn't perceive it that way...

Perception IS everything,,,even if invalid.

Certainly it begins as a Learned experience.

Subtly my opinion differs from other answers, and maybe even the wording of your Q?

My personal opinion is that Perception creates factors that "shape" the basis for all opinions, attitudes, progress, or regression.

I can be shaped, guided, restricted, by my environment, for EXAMPLE, but my perception of IT, might cause me to alter my environment to suit me, especially if I'm not happy with my environment.

The ways we have been conditioned when we were younger, indoctrination, mood.. I think anything and everything we encounter has the power to shape and change our perception.. Just in which ways I am not so sure..

your education
the society in which you grow up
your religious training if any
you experience
your attitude
hose you call friends
your intelligence when it comes to being able to decipher and filter what happens to you and around you
you interest in and attention to current world events
your personal morals and appetites
things of that mature
