if you have at least a 3.5 GPA (calculated the way the UC calculates it), you're guaranteed to get into at least one UC. the average GPA at the more famous UCs (UCLA, berkeley) is about 4.15. Cal states have much lower requirements.
as for the SATs, see if you can get above 1800. if you can, then you're in the right range for both the UCs and the Cal states.

There are some really helpful books on 4-year colleges available - but the best person to get help from is your guidance teacher at school or a teacher. They can help you pick classes or find after school activities you can add to your applications. They can also find you a SAT tutor if you want one. Also - the admissions office at the schools you are interested in also will have websites or you can call the admissions office and talk to someone there.

Just to throw this in -- why do people just HAVE to get into these 4-year schools that have admission processes that drive a person insane? Some people would just DIE if they couldn't get in and they have to go to community college. I went to community college before transfering to a 4-year university. The admission process is extremely simple and very cheap -- only $39 per credit hour. All the classes transfered and I saved a ton in student loans.

Check their personal websites, but generally a decent college needs a 3.25/3.5 GPA and at least a 850 SAT score (for 2 parts, not 3).

Probably if you assure them that you're liberal enough, you'll get in.
