I think that the people were looking for a change out of fear. The new mayor is pushy and charasmatic. He is scaring people, which I think is why it went that way. I noticed that Heather wasn't even in the last episode, don't know what that is about. Plus with the fiance' of Jake's ex back who knows how things will turn out. They are running special episodes on their website during their break till Jan-Feb too.
