Because of the salinity content in the water. Much like Mono Lake in California, the high salt content causes the swimmer to float almost on top of the water. Makes for some very interesting pictures. Just google Mono lake swimmer for photos... you should see an old photograph of a guy floating reading a newspaper... crazy :-)

I went swimming there! And I floated! The dead sea is the lowest point on earth and it's called the dead sea because of all the salt in it, so nothing can live in it. Make sure you don't get any of the water in your eyes... haha

Whether an object sinks or floats in a liquid depends on the densities of the object and the liquid. If the object is MORE dense than the liquid, the object will sink; if it is LESS dense, it will float.
Salt water is MORE dense than plain water, which means that one gallon of salt water weighs more than one gallon of plain water. Some people are LESS dense than the water in the dead sea, so they float! Some other people are less dense even than plain water, so some people float there too.

Like they all said the human body is less dense than salt water and you'll float. but you still float a little bit in regular water.

Due to the high salinity of the water you will float. This is because a human is less dense than salt water, it is essentially the buoyancy principal at its finest.
