Try this, go to a mirror and pretend you're talking to someone you've never met before. Now before even starting a conversation, look at yourself in the mirror, look around you, look at the walls projected in the mirror or any objects being reflected in the mirror. Get the feel that you're not just speaking to yourself in the mirror, but a stranger in a similiar setting. Now start talking, and if you have one, use a camera to record your facial expressions, if you have a camcorder this will work really good.

When you're done with the mock conversation, go back and watch the video, take notes on how you spoke, what you said, how you looked in the video, number of eye contacts, length of conversation ETC.

After watching this a few times or maybe for the first time, ask yourself if you'd like to know that person or not. You can really see alot of improvement you need to make if doing this, you look at the situation from the third person, or from the other persons perspective, once you realize how you would like to be spoke to, you'll realize what you're doing wrong and be better at speaking with people.

Hi,
Eye contact represents so many things and gestures relating to profession and occasion and it also has its own meaning in different cultures.
Maintaining an eye contact with audiences reflects ur confidence and knowledge while discussing or reasoning on some point during a meeting.
While teaching , maintaining eye contact with different students means that u r in direct rapport with them and having an eye on them also.
In some cultures , have an direct eye contact with parents or elder ones means insulting or disobedient attitude.
If eye contact becomes gazing: then its known as harassment.
BUT, a continuous behavior of losing eye contact means " Lack of Confidence & or Inferiority Complex( hidden or open)" in general.
my regards:
