I need some pointers from experienced writers on what not to do, what to do on the paper to get a better grade. Please and thank you. No stupid answer/answerers please. I don't have the time or the patience.

That is a fantastic story. Some things that will help make your report better is to find ways that the happenings in the story link to things that you know. Look for hidden meanings if you can. I have a really hard time doing that myself, but I know that's what teachers want you to do.
Also be very clear about what you are responding to. They say to state what your going to talk about. Tell all you can about it and then restate what you talked about. You need to use different ways to put it each time though.
Check your grammar and spelling and punctuation of course.Read the paper backwards sentence by sentence, it makes errors show up better than reading it straight through. If possible have someone else read it for you and get their opinion. If your in high school your parents are a good source for that even if you really don't think so... Okay sorry little mom spilling over.... Even while I was in college when my kids were in high school they couldn't believe I could help...LOL
