I understand everyone in this nation of our (The US) feels we are still free, however, in light of the war, the economy, and our shrinking identity due to illegal immigration and government control I strongly feel that we are likely to be in a Civil War of our own within the next decade.
I am an expert on foreign policy and domestic, however, my insights stem not from my professional background, but rather, my seeing changes in how the United States treats it's people and bullies the rest of the world. It may not be a very optimistic outlook, but "We the Peope" have become only those with lot's of money making the rest of us do what they want.
In short, America is run by corporations and closet tyrannts. Unless the people of our nation stand up for what the founding fathers intended our nation will be lost forever and we will have nobody to blame but ourselves.
I did not elect the current President/Emperor, but I can assure you that many who did now regret that choice profoundly.

First of all, I am a retired US Military Officer-an 07 to be precise, so I feel my views are validated by my experience both at the Pentagon and within the community.
I am not going to leave my nation, but I will fight to preserve it, regardless of what definition people might infer from my patriotism....

I guess nobody who calls me crazy has been watching CNN? I suppose the President is making us safer by oppressing your rights. I am not affected by any of those pesky little laws, former Generals rarely are, however, if you wish to walk with blinders on, be my guest. If you want to email me directly I at daniel.luke.diaz@us.army.mil so we can discuss the validity of my statements.
After the President gets back from Iraq we will see what last desperate acts he takes to win a war that cannot be won. If you think you can win it please, step up to the plate, because I have been fighting wars for over 40 years and know what I am talking about. I do, however like flowers, but was never a hippie, a liberal, or a coward.
Look in the mirror, if you never wore a uniform in the service of our nation don't judge a person by their desire for peace...

An excellent question. I am forced to borrow one of my favorite quotes:
"In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve."
I just hate the fact that before the people react, as I believe a little over HALF of them did on Nov. 7, they wait until the situation has bottomed out - rather than consistently participating in our government and trying to keep an even keel.
As the quote above indicates, you are 110% correct in placing the blame for any failures in this great nation squarely on the shoulders of the people.
The system of democracy cannot sustain itself without the peoples participation and constant input.
Power corrupts - we see it demonstrated on a weekly basis - and, at times, even more often.
The people are the ultimate checks and balance - but only if they excercise that duty.

I dont feel that way at all. Its not a dictator unless he disolves the Judicial and legislative branches. and last time i checked, we still have those checks and balances in place, and last time i checked the legislative side just got filled in with a bunch of liberal pukes who cant even define terrorism let alone wage a war against it.
If you were a one-star, then why do you wear enlisted insignia on your lapel on your A's? Why do you wear your unit crest on your beret, in place of your one-star?
Because you were an E7, not an O7
If the O were located next to the E on the keyboard, then I would dismiss that as user error, and excused. But since you went further to say you were an Officer, instead of distinguishing yourself as a Non-Commisioned Officer (and every NCO, is darn proud to be one, and would never be caught dead letting his identity be confused with people who do not work for a living). Then you go further alluding that you are a former General. I would have to say this falls under Article 134 of the UCMJ if it was done intentionally. If that is.
One of us, is Confused.
Did the guys back at 18th Cav know you were a General?

If you pause to think about it, we will ALWAYS be under a dictator... One of the other definitions of a dictator is "one who dictates." God is in control - of everything - and is therefore dictating history and how things will work themselves out through time... So remember: You don't call the shots... He does...
Why Jesus doesn't just show up and set things straight is anybody's guess... Perhaps, He's still working out YOUR (the reader's) "Deal or No Deal" for your soul...
Any kingdom founded on anything other than love for one another cannot stand the test of time or eternity...

What I think you saw with the last election was a revolution not a civil war, with the balance of power changing like it is going to with the democrats in Majority I think you will see many changes. In fact I think you have seen some of what is to come with the firing of Donald Rumsfeld. Before the election and up to the democrats take office we have been under one party rule and it hasn't worked very good. Yes I think it was in effect a dictatorship and the American people voted for this change and maybe that will bring more accountability to the government and save the land that we really love from spilling the blood that it will take to have a civil war.

Taking it a little far aren't you??? i mean, sure, he's a horrible president but the chance that our country goes into another civil war is really low. he's only got 2 more years man....in 2008 you can be afraid of another person who can't live up to your everchanging expectations....either we have some1 who does a great job and gets his freak on...or we have a complete idiot....both from different parties...both did bad things

Agreed. except i dont feel that we are still free as americans. People have repeatedly told me "there should be a law against that". I am sick and tired of that kind of thinking. People should be able to do certian things even if other people would do another thing in thier place. As long as it doesnt hurt another person.
Anyways, WE are under a dictatorship. Locally and nationally. I would fight a civil war for freedom. but i would never fight for our current dictatorship!
great question! hard for me not to write a whole paper on it...

Dictators are never elected. We are NOT under a dictator. All you have to do is look to Saddam Hussein to see what a dictator is. Dictators do not go away when the citizens decide to put someone else in power. Dictators sometimes kill the competition and try to stay in power until either they die or someone kills them.

I agree with you on our position in the world right now, but you must remember that our President was elected. Many of the people who voted for him regret it now, but it was their duty to see through him the first (and second) time he ran. The stupidity of Americans does not make him a dictator.
