But how can you adapt to an environment without adapting that environment to you at the same time? I adapt to my toilet but my toilet also adapts to me.

If u r talking about the disturbed "Echo" system, then we are leaving no stone unturned to get ourselves extinguished soon in couple of centuries or may be earlier if not hit by meteoroid.
