You are not dumb but you are young and have not had much education as yet and there is so much to learn
Most people who are over 30 know who Pearl S. Buck was. She wrote wonderful books mostly about China because she had been raised there by missionary parents.
She was also a great humanitarian who founded the Pearl Buck Foundation.

I think my favorite books she wrote are: The Good Earth and Imperial Woman
I really love her work. I am sorry you are forced to read it in school because that may taint a great author's works for you.
Keep an open mind and read The Good Earth.
I always weep to myself when I hear a young person complaining about being forced to read one book or another and I know the book is a work of art in literature.

Pearl S. Buck was the author of "The Good Earth," which described a Chinese family who was very much in poverty. They hung in with the cards of life that they were dealt, and there are many twists and turns to be had as well.
I recommend reading this book if you wish to know more about a great author like Buck.

It took me a while, but I remember that she wrote The Good Earth. It was chosen by Oprah's book club or something like that. The book also had a little biography of her, so I know she grew up in China. I haven't heard of her other books, but if getting on Oprah's list constitutes being famous, then she is.
