I already have one undergraduate degree (not in education), I am aware of the NC Teach program for licensure. Or would it be more advantageous to obtain a BS in Elementary Ed?

If you have a BS already you might want to consider getting an MA in education. However, I definately recommend going through a teacher program instead of alternative licensure. Teacher retention in teachers with alternative licensure is VERY low as they usually lack classroom management skills. Because of teacher shortages you would most likely have little trouble getting a job but for your own sanity, I would suggest an education degree. Good luck!!!

Definately go with the Ed. degree!

The difference in time and money is not so significant that it is worth being limited by the licensure program! I am so glad I got my B. Ed. because many people I know move and can't get certified without going back to school.

Also, the focus will be more academic, which will open your mind to find your teaching style rather than 'train' you to be a 'teacher'.

Good luck and remember to have fun with the kids!

You will waste time and money by going back for a BS.
Consider doing a lateral entry while taking the courses necessary for certification. You would be gettting paid.
Another route would be to go for the Master's Degree in Education, adding in the 2 required courses of teaching of reading and introduction to education, and come out with a masters, plus you still could do the lateral entry and be working.
