Some might say its being able to live out on your own and pay your own bills. Others might say there is more to maturity than paying bills such as emotional independence, etc. I'm curious... define what you think "maturity" is?

Hi,
Maturity, in my point of view, is understanding the situation comprehensively and acting on it wisely. U can also define it as" adulthood or having awareness" It can also include the subset of being physically developed fully in terms of body. But maturity is relative term often used to express the wisdom someone have.
It is not age related (in my views) rather, its experience related and depends how U see life. Its not paying of bills... my regards:

Maturity to me is of course independence, but there is a lot more to it because anyone can be independent yet they aren't always mature. I think a lot of it is social. For example, knowing when to and not to say something, acting in certain ways, etc. Being able to handle events in your life without causing a lot of drama. However at the same time it is a lot of emotional independence. You need to be stable, not 100% but stable enough as to where you can function as an individual without offending anyone/thing.

Dr Hashmi gave a really good answer, I think along the same lines. Maturity isn't being boring all the time and serious about everything like some people might think. It's knowing when to be serious and when to relax and have fun, it is being self aware and aware of your surroundings and responding appropriately.

Any fool can move away from mommy and daddy! Maturity is saying your sorry (when you are wrong ), and meaning it, letting someone else speak and actually listening, realizing that mom and dad really do know what they're talking about, putting others before yourself, taking responsibility for what you've done, and the list goes on and on.
