Well it depends on what you intend to do with your diploma. Some people who get a G.E.D. have already succeeded. If anybody tries to succeed, then that will bring the highest probability that they will succeed regardless of their educational "attainment".

Depending on how far someone wants to go in life, or how ambitious and motivated someone is...

I suggest staying in school, if you are thinking of dropping out. I am 18, and my mother took me out of school when I was 15. I started doing things that aren't very good for you because I grew restless from not doing anything all day. I started working when I was 16 and have been working ever since. I earned my GED when I was 17 and started college a year before my graduating class. Now, if I hadn't let work and a boyfriend take up my time, my grades would be perfect. But I am still working on college and I won't stop attending classes untill I obtain a PhD/JD. One can be a high school graduate and become a loser. Anything is possible.

The person who is most likely to succeed is the person who is willing to do what it has to take to succeed.

A diploma looks better on an application, but a G.E.D. looks better than nothing! A diploma shows that you did things the right way. A G.E.D. shows that you didn't do things right the first time, but you were smart enough to realize it, and do something about it.

It could depend on what comes after that... college? Or experience. Experience really looks good on a resume.

Either, as long as they go to college.
But neither will get you very far alone in the working world.
