Anyone here an ESOL teacher in the California public school system? If so, what is it like? In elementary school do you pull out the children from the classrooms? Do you get paid the same amount as regular teachers? And how do I go about getting an ESOL degree in CA?

I am not yet certified to teach so I cannot take an online course designed for people who already have degrees in teaching.

There are a lot of schools that have ESL programs, and typically you should get paid more (from what I hear). WGU has a really good teachers college, and it is online. They are not for profit, and have good tuition prices.

Where I work, we call it ELD. Students with English as a second language stay in your classroom, but there is a specific time for ELD, where students are separated by their English ability. You have to have a supplemental credential to teach ELD, and you do get a stipend if you have a certain number of students who meet ELD criteria.
