I know there are a lot of studies that claim average intelligence is higher in men, but what about creativity. If you look at the past, nearly in all artistic fields they have been mostly made up of men. One could argue this was because of more opportunities, but many famous artists did not have opportunities at all, they made their own with their art. In art, film, music, almost all of the major faces in the field are men. Has anyone ever studied the physiological side of this?

From earliest times men had to constantly compete with other men to secure resources, food, mates, etc, so they had to be clever and creative. This resulted in male energy tending to be focused externally... towards building and running the outside worlds of industry, business, finance, government, society. Because of this, we SEE more evidence of male creativity... architecture, art, music, science, politics, etc. Also, since the world was (and to some extent still is) male privileged, it was harder for creative females to gain notoriety.

As a result, female energy tended to be focused more internally... towards nurturing, families, relationships, homes, basically the things that woman had more control over. A great deal of woman's creativity probably never made it out into the world, but contributed just as importantly to our overall progress as a civilization.

When called upon, women have demonstrated they can be as pragmatic, industrious and efficient as men (think wartime), so I have no doubt that, given equal footing & opportunity, women can be equally creative, albeit from a female persepective which would probably be a good thing.

It doesn't depend on sex. Creative people are the weird ones anyway, the ones who failed at being "normal" men and women, who just have their own views but actually give them dedication; the problem is that women are taught to be more submissive and are afraid of expressing their beliefs for a multitude of reasons or just lack the confidence; those who overcome this are faced with the barriers of typical sexism; but because it's the creative world and people try to think outside the box; they have a 50-50 chance of getting in. Studies have also been held that have determined that everyone thinks men are more creative regardless of any evidence for or against that claim, they showed artworks and architectural/ business plans to people which were the same but they told some they were done by men and some by women; they rated the male work more creative than female in all categories except fashion design, so you can see there's something of a bias that makes this hard to settle.

This is funny because I would ask if women are more creative than men. It often seems that women use the more creative side of the brain and men the more logical-fact-science side of the brain, but really it depends person-to-person, not just male vs. female. I also would say that men had more opportunities--and that's not just in art fields, but everything else as well (jobs, status, dominance in relationships and government). Most of the people you have heard of from the past are going to be men.

Yes there were more classical musical composerrs that were men. More classical painters that were men. Not ALL men are more creative than women. More men are left side brained. The right side is the creative side. But mothering well is supremely creative. Certainly this is a great creative accomplishment, when it's done with joy and love.

study the dutch masters, dig deep, can you make your own blue paint, can u make your own brushes, this is a way of life, all that is art is as much as being a plumber or a carpentier, the trades are full of how to do people, arts is a hard way of life, women aren't stupid and think that they can change the evidence of how brutle art is and how little chance there is,in being the right person at the right time with the right talent, all hard things to accomplish, but i can't answer the question

No. I really don't think that creativity is dependent on sex. Men are more active and confident so they get more things done (blame society). But women typically have a more vivid imagination.

well i know they are more curvaceous then men...... creative? i dunno about that though...
Seriously, they have more opportunity to challenge their creativity... they get to pick different colors for their clothes, face, hair, etc. so many different choices. men? we get pants and shirt and anything we can do with that so long as we do not use too many colors regarded as feminine... so yeah, women are probably more creative but only because mens creativity has been stifled.
