You'll need to take it to a qualified mechanic who can read the code and diagnose the cause from there. There are dozens of possible causes -- starting from something as minor as a loose or bad gas cap.

Just reading the code is not enough; it has to be interpreted by someone who knows what they are doing.

If you are talking about the " Check Engine" light ? Usually yellow in color....that's the engine management system or the computer that runs the car. Could be the Oxygen sensor or a maintenance interval that is turned on after that many miles.

If the Engine Light comes on it, it can be many things. YOu can either goto a auto shop where they can hook it up to a computer or you can buy a code reader at an auto store. Check your gas cap & make sure its on tight. Sometimes that may trigger the sensor.

get a paper clip and bounce the plug under the sprint. this could reason the easy to flash in a chain and enable you to already know the code because of the fact is OBD1..... the haynes handbook has the codes. maximum in all probability no be counted if that's emissions correct then that's o2 sensor or egr valve/ports.......

I think one of the sensors that the computer monitors is sending a signal that is not within the expected range the computer expects to see, and therefore it is telling you of the possibility of a problem by lighting up a light on the dash that says something on the order of "check engine."

What do YOU think it is?

Go to one of those auto parts stores that offer a free diagnosis such as Autozone.
Might be a simple oxygen sensor.
Good luck.
