Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th, twelve days after Christmas. It is often viewed as the last day of the Christmas season (the end of the 12 days of Christmas).
Also known as The Epiphany, Three Kings Day (Día de los Reyes) is a Christian celebration that commemorates the Biblical story of the three kings who followed the star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to the
Christ child. According to the Biblical story, the Three Kings – named Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar – presented the Baby Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Traditionally in Mexico, Three Kings Day was the gift-giving time, rather than Christmas day. Just as it is common for children to leave cookies for Santa in the U.S., in some regions of Mexico, it was customary for children to leave their shoes out on the night of January 5, often filling them with hay for the camels, in hopes that the Three Kings would be generous. Mexican children would awake on January 6 to find their shoes filled with toys and gifts.
Also traditional in Mexico is for families to gather together and share the Rosca de Reyes. The Rosca de Reyes is a crown-shaped sweet bread decorated with pieces of orange and lime. It is filled with nuts, figs, and cherries. Hot chocolate is traditionally served with the Rosca de Reyes.

THREE KINGS DAY:
The twelve days of Christmas end with the Feast of Epiphany also called "The Adoration of the Magi" or "The Manifestation of God." Celebrated on January 6, it is known as the day of the Three Kings (or wise men/magi): Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. According to an old legend based on a Bible story, these three kings saw, on the night when Christ was born, a bright star, followed it to Bethlehem and found there the Christchild and presented it with gold, frankincense and myrrh.
January 6, the last day of Christmas, comes with its own traditions, rituals and symbols. Carolers are going from house to house; in many homes the Christmas tree is taken down and in some areas is burnt in a big bonfire. For the children this is an especially joyous occasion because, associated with taking down the tree goes the "plündern" (raiding) of the tree. The sweets, chocolate ornaments wrapped in foil or cookies, which have replaced the sugar plums, are the raiders' rewards.

We used to celebrate in our town. I think it was to celebrate Finding Jesus in the stable by the 3 Kings who had followed the Star of Bethlehem there. It was ,if I remember correctly 14 days after Christmas...don't hold me on that though. Our town would collect all the Christmas tree in town and have a Bonfire and sing "We Three Kings", and other songs, while we drank Hot chocolate and ate cookies. Some people baked 3- layer cakes, with ribbons stuck between the layers before it was frosted. One ribbon had a tiny baby tied to it, in remembrance of the 3 Kings finding Baby Jesus. Everyone was allowed to pull one ribbon. The one with the ribbon tied to the baby had God's Blessing on them all year. Just a tradition with some people.

3 kings day is sort of looked at as the last day of the christmas holiday. it's a christian tradition celebrating the story of the three kings who brought gifts to jesus when he was born. it happens more in mexico then the u.s. and kids usually leave out their shoes on the night of january 5th, just like santa and cookies, and fill them with hay hoping that the three kings will give them gifts, and usually they wake up to gifts and toys in their shoes. familys also eat rosca de reyes, a crowned shape bread decorated and usually served with hot coco! hope this helps!<3mazi
