The yellowjackets are so thick around the hummingbird feeder that the birds can't get in to drink. Also since it is in my back yard the yellowjackets think they own the place and I couldn't eat anything out there anymore. Please send suggestions!
Thanks!

look for a nest and get some bee spray or have a professional pest control person chek out the area

I hope you get an answer to this, because the same thing happens to me with other types of bees and even wasps! It got so bad, I had to quit putting nectar into the feeder!

I knew NOT to use insecticides, because that could kill any bird that came into the yard, including the tiny hummingbirds. Also, other insects would get it on them too, and that is bad knews for beneficial bats! So if any one suggests this route, I wouldn't reccomend it for environmental reasons (your health too!)

a tumbler feeder isn't different. try a non-poisonous insect repellent utilized to the twine from which the feeder hangs, and utilized to the tree or shape from which the feeder hangs. different components that discourage ants are petroleum jelly, utilized as reported above; vinegar or powdered cloves utilized to ant trails; and adhesive tape utilized sticky-area-out to the unbelievable twine. shifting the feeder does not artwork because of the fact the ants at last locate it. do no longer use poisonous repellents or insectisides or different sprays that kill ants. The birds will injest it and die.

There are some traps for wasps and yellow jackets that are used to entice them away from your barbecue, I'd suggest looking in a hardware store. The reason they work is that they have pheromones. Give it a try and they may have their own party and leave the hummers in peace.

you need to watch them and See if you can find their nest. once you find it pour gasoline on the nest or hole they go in and burn them out. they may have more than one nest so keep trying to find all of them.
