I know there are a lot of studies that claim average intelligence is higher in men, but what about creativity. If you look at the past, nearly in all artistic fields they have been mostly made up of men. One could argue this was because of more opportunities, but many famous artists did not have opportunities at all, they made their own with their art. In art, film, music, almost all of the major faces in the field are men. Has anyone ever studied the physiological side of this?

I think men are more adventuresome in art, but that may be in the past. Certainly women have long demonstrated amazing creativity: look at some of the amazing needlework arts in the better museums, almost all done by women. And modern women are of course in all sorts of creative endeavors. But lots of women care little for anything creative outside their own physical creations -- their babies -- and sometimes people say men and childless women are creating other things in compensation for this lack. Don't know about that, but I do think men are more daring in art.

that depends on what you mean by creativity. Men think more logically and with reason and women tend to think with emotion. Both are good... So really there is no way of proving which gender is "more creative".
True, men's faces were in the public eye more so than women's, but you have to understand that that is because women had little or no rights at all, and they were especially not allowed to show their creative side through art, technology, politics, etc. But if you look back in history and actually search ( behind all of the information that the history books give you) the facts, you will find that their were many female artists, some even as good as the leading male artists of history.... they're just not known of.
So.....personally, i could be wrong, but i think there really is no way f proving which gender is more creative. hey, i could be wrong though...
Now you could prove people with a certain personality are more creative..but not gender. it depends on the mind, not the gender.

Well, I haven't studied the physiological side of this - and I'm sure if one did they would find about a 50/50 ratio of creativity between men and women - BUT I beg to differ on your opinion that men are more intelligent OR more creative. I'd say the reason that historically men have dominated the artistic field, as well as every other field, is because women were discriminated against. Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte originally had to used MALE psuedonyms just to get their writings published. So, maybe, a lot of those "men" were actually women, or at the very least, the mind behind the man could have been his wife/sister/etc.
It is my experience that men often take women's great ideas and pass them off as their own. That's one of the methods we women use to get our way and still allow you guys to retain your ego ... we voice our opinion, you appear to brush it off, and five minutes later you're stating the same opinion, re-worded, and act as if it were the most intelligent statement ever made and act as if it were ORIGINAL ....pleeeez

How do you define creativity, and how do you count? Your question in its present form cannot have a correct answer. My suspicion is that what differences we see are almost all cultural and a little biological, but even that supposes there's a possibility of definition of terms that can be universally agreed upon.

It is not true. Women have great creativity but just don't go out and make it get heard. Men have more pride and want to show it to everybody else.

unquestionably not. current studies show that women's brains function in a far more balanced manner than those of men, especially the testosterone saturated types. moreover, in terms of right brain function, which is felt to support creative endeavor, women are clearly ahead. in addition, true art comes from/through the intuitive/unconscious aspects of one's being. i think we all know who'se ahead in that department, eh? ;-) signed: a great lover/admirer of women and female artists, especially virgos ;-)))

i don't think so. It is known that woman have bigger brains then men and we can think faster and quicker, therefore we can accumulate more creativity faster. although most men are good at putting colors and shapes together, we are better at getting the whole project in perspective.
