I actually think so. It gives people a chance to feel sort of important. I always get a sense of elation when someone chooses my answer as the best answer, it makes me feel needed. To some degree, I definitely can see that as a form of therapy.

wow! niice question. I can see how it would be! I mean people w/ these problems can ask for advice and feel better about themselves and give advice! Also the points you can earn would be a positive reward! That cool! i never saw it that way before! , but i guess it could be bad too.. i mean what if the ask for advice and someone like says negative things... that could make it worse..
I think your on to something though! mabyee YOU will start an online linic for people w/ these problems. Where they can just talk to other people in the comfort of their own homes! They can ask questions, give advice... WOW! thats so kool! i've never seen it like that! GOOD GOING!

I do not think it is better. I am somewhat addicted to yahoo answers, and it is driving me crazy. I check almost everyday to see if i have new answers, or to see if i got a best answer. And i have never been addicted to a psychologists, and i've seen many of them because my teachers and parents were worried about my shyness. I think Yahoo is more fun, but i don't think it is a better therapy.

For people just looking to vent and get feedback how others feel on an issue it's great. It likely is therapeutic for some knowing others share the same views and values. How can anyone really take this all seriously? It's mostly entertainment ain't it?

Any time some one has a serious sickness / illness they need to see a professional.
Yahoo People answering their serious questions do not know the medical facts unless they can give a reliable source. site
and can follow up on it.

it depends on the question and who answers it.
I still think that part of the time when ppl ask questions like "what should I do" or "What should I say" they usually have an opinion on what they want to hear so not everybodys advice is taken into such deep consideration.

I think in some cases it does help because you get so many different ideas and suggestions!
But yea leave the "serious" stuff for the professionals!
