Yes, they can. Some will cuddle more, some will just ignore you (mine does).

I think that cats are amazingly sensitive. When I was taking care of my dying grandfather several years ago, a stray cat came right through the door, jumped up on the arm of my grandpa's chair, and just stayed there. All day. Next day, same thing. Next day, same thing. This cat came to keep him company every single day for over a month. When his health failed to the point that I actually had to move in with him, the cat just moved right in with me, and comforted me at night. My grandfather died; I kept the cat, and my wonderful, amazing, beautiful Margaret and I have been together for 4 years now.

Oh, I would say your cat is definitely trying to comfort you. You should get some Rescue Remedy from a health foods store and "treat" yourself with that. Just shake the bottle well and put three to four drops in a short glass of filtered water and sip it when you are feeling stressed. You can put it on the cat's fur too.
I mentioned its use for a cat once and a lady emailed me to say that she stuck a bottle of the RR in her overnight bag when she went to the hospital to have her baby. She said it definitely helped her relax and the labor went more smoothly for her.

cats sense our emotional changes. many times I have thought cats are here as "those messengers that take the pain away".
even tonight I had an odd witness to it.....took a sip of pop and it went down the wrong pipe. I started to gag and choke and after not even a minute my cat woke up and started to gag and choke too. but as she started mine stopped and all pain in my neck went away as she coughed for another minute.
she is 1 year old and this is the first time I have ever seen her cough...for any reason, even a hair ball....and then to have her cough when I get choked........odd.....just makes me believe my theory is right.

Mine do the same thing. Mine will come over and rub their face up against mine or will just lay on my lap. I think they definitely know when your upset. I love that about cats.

Yes, they can sense when your happy or sad. They are , our silent friends. I have had both cats and dogs, and an old dog can really sense your saddness and happiness. Our pets are the silent friend that we can lean on and know that they truely understand and try to comfort us and be happy with us. They let us know in their own way, that we are not alone.

particular. i might think of that my cat might run or cover once I get disillusioned, yet whilst i am going right into a hysteria, he comes up and rubs against my leg and purrs and tries to lick the tears away. The cat is attempting to make you experience extra desirable, so whilst it does that, sparkling up your tears because of the fact he or she would be able to maximum probable think of that they did their jobs as cats--heal you.
