From what you know about both mens' history with France and overall character and philosophy, which one might make the better foreign policy advisor, not just on American-French relations, if alive today?

Thank you for your question.

Thomas Jefferson was a knowledgeable man. His response to the US as a superpower would be interesting. He would be keen to promote democracy but sceptical of the value of military power.

Benjamin Franklin was a skilled diplomat and could have provided useful advice on diplomacy. Indeed, I think that he would be more skilled in this capacity that Jefferson. Franklin would also emphasise the importance of having a positive world reputation.

It is an interesting question to contemplate.

Fascinating question. I think I would go with Franklin for being more flexible, more able to deal with the unexpected. But both men were truly geniuses, and I'd like to have either one around to get his advice on any number of things in Washington, DC.

Ben franklin because he never undermined anyones authority while jefferson undermined adams'.
