I live in Alabama and am trying to get myself started acting. Ive been told to try plays in order to get a feel, and I am wondering how to find auditions in Alabama. Also, where's a good place to find monologues? Like websites? Thanks!

Why don't you sign up for TV and Film extra work. It's a good way to get started and make good money.

Check the web - best place to start, also check the newspaper - many cities list their auditions in the classifieds. The link below I found on the web has a bunch of AL auditions - hopefully that would help. I would defintely say to get some experience under your belt before you move off to LA or NYC. Try some local auditions - if you are really serious try to audition for an Equity (union) theatre in your area - if you can get some good union gigs you may be ready to head to a bigger market - and it isn't all happening in NYC or LA - San Fran, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis are all good markets to get started in.

Okay, so I would suggest trying to get an agent. With an agent you actually have a better chance of getting into TV shows and such. Then take a trip to NYC and LA because thats where they have really good opportunities. Look in you're local phone book for an agent. Monolouges? Well look for online script places IMSDB.com you can read scripts and such and get monolouges, depends on what you're looking for. Good luck!

Find a good acting school. If you don't know of one, call the universities in your city, and ask to speak to someone in the theater department. Ask that person to recommend an acting school for you. Also, call the Community Colleges and ask them the same question. The Public Library.
