Will I be ok there if I can't speak Spanish? Do they understand at least some English there? I'm staying at the Hilton Cancun.

Believe me one important fact maybe unfortunate for mexicans and fortunatly for ppl all over the world is that in Cancun everybody speaks more english that spanish, everybody knows english so you aren´t going to have any problem... just remember

gracias = thank you
una cerveza por favor = One beer please
un tequila por favor!!! = one tequila please
como llego al hotel hilton cancun? (just if you get to drunk to remember it :) = how do i get to the hilton cancun??

I've been to Cancun MANY times & have never had a problem communicating. It is a tourist area & therefore very important for them to be able to talk to Americans (english). As others have suggested, it is good to know a few key words. If you're a shopper, another nice thing to know is "Cuanto questo?" (How much does it cost?). Be prepared to bargain with them, they'll expect it!
Another thing to watch out for is the police pulling scams on you. My husband & I were there for our honeymoon in March. He was out walking by himself one evening (I was sick in the room!) & he actually got stopped by police. They told him he was going to jail. When he said he was on his honeymoon, they told him he could give them $300 & not go to jail. When he said he didn't have the $$, they offered to take him to an ATM! He was smart & only took out $50, saying he had reached the daily limit allowed by the bank, & they took it & dropped him off at the hotel. Keep in mind this was during prime spring break time & there were TONS of drunk teens all around him. I think it was b/c he was by himself & an easy target.
Other than that, you'll have a wonderful time. The Hilton is a great hotel.

You'll have absolutely no problem in Cancun. Their entire economy is based on tourism - almost everyone you'll come into contact with speaks English!
As a suggestion, it wouldn't hurt to learn a few words in Spanish for your interaction with the locals - words like: yes, no, thank you, bathroom, please, etc. . .

Believe me, you wil be surprised of how many people speaks english there, You don't have to worry about nothing but having fun.
Make some time and try to visit Chichen Itza, Xel-Ha, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, you will enjoy it.
