It is because America used nuclear weapons and everyone realized the devestation that people are reluctant to use them.
It is the same reason chemical and germ warfare are considered as evil. Both sides used it in WW I. Why don't we take those weapons away from the Europeans, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Iraqi's and Iranians, just to name a few.

It's real hard to conceal the glee in Iran, What are there, 120 million Iranians? Mostly situated in the more genteel northern latitudes. 6 thousand centrifuges whirling along taking the 235 and getting the most bang for the buck. Finally the big stick. The love of it all is the sale and delivery of spare nukes to the likes of Sudan. The Peace of the Lord is getting shot full of radioactive shrapnel. Shall we nuke or invade? What would Jesus do? Will the tanks of capitalism rise to the challenge and grind these students/mullahs/targets to pieces before War can break out? Shall we have a negotiated conflict, sparing the planet of damage, but eliminating pesky human types. 12,000 3-6 magatonners aimed at Iran by every other nuke power. Sure we trust them, but as R.Reagan said, 'Cut the cards'.

On civilians? That's an interesting point of view. Even if I agreed that America should have its nuclear weapons confiscated, how would this be accomplished? Who's going to take them? What's to be done with them after they're taken? Isn't that kind of like trying to uninvent the bullet?

Sure, come and pick them up,. The bombs, while horrible, ended the war. No revisionist crap about the imminent Japanese surrender has any merit. Okinawa was a preview of what an invasion of Japan was going to entail.
Perhaps Hiroshima and Nagasaki were examples for all mankind of the terrible results of the weapons. And perhaps their sacrifice has kept these weapons from being used again.
And you'd have North Korea or Pakistan or France or Russia or India or Israel or India or China or the UK keep theirs? How nice.

Yes the United States should rid itself of nukes.
AND IT WAS NOT AMERICA who dropped those bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Canada, Central America and South America had nothing to do with that bombing.
IT WAS THE UNITED STATES,
We need to stop equating "America" with the"United States". We are in the United States. Period.
Deal with it.
Now you find yourselves afraid because other countries want nukes. Well. now you know how they feel.
They are getting them
All of these countries, some we have never heard of.
They want to prepare themselves
FROM WHOM?
This country. Because even if the U.S. shouted to the world that they were going to get rid of nuclear weapons,
no one would believe them.
Why?
Because we lie so much.

Absolutely not.
If you look at the circumstances of the war in the Pacific and the loss of life (Iwo Jima had 20000 Japanese dead and 8000 Marines, 20000 injured) that would have occurred if US and Russian forces had invaded Japan, the atomic bomb was the lesser of the evils.
The devastation witness also shocked the world to never use these weapons in war again.

I say confiscate all of them, but I'd be terrified to live in a country with no major defense whatsoever... especially in today's world. What the U.S did was wrong, but I think we should be allowed to have them for defense purposes only.

Yeah sure...take our nukes away, and give them to who? Iran? North Korea? You want them to be the ones with the power to destroy whom ever they don't like???? Grow Up!
And dropping the bomb was NOT WRONG! It saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives. It ended WW2 didn't it? How foolish and ignorant to history it is to say that it was the wrong thing to do.

NO...And just *who* do you think that could take what we don't want to give up.... The only way that could happen is if PansyAss liberals would surrender them.... like they surrendered in Vietnam and want to surrender in Iraq.... That's all they know is KissAss appeasement.
