this is probably a homework question huh.....well think of it this way, when u read a book, what can you tell about it

time period
style of dress
events that occured
food ate
lifestyle
transportation
type of people
demographic of people
etc

Well, any book has to give a lot of descriptions so you can paint a picture in your mind. F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby tells you about the flapper, 1920s lifestyle because of the picture it paints. It tells you about their clothes, house, how they talk, what kind of language they use, what they talk about, etc.
