On campus in college, most bathrooms have signs saying "Keep our bathrooms clean: they are being monitered." Can there be security cameras in bathrooms? That sounds like a pretty hardcore violation of civil rights to me.

It is fine to install video cameras anywhere on YOU OWN property, ESPECIALLY if you warn people about it.
If you don't like it, take your business elsewhere.
Now if you go to a PUBLIC college then there might be an invasion of privacy issue.

Dont worry..the phrase "being monitored" simply implies that they are regularly inspected, probably by the cleaners. Its just to deter people from writing on the walls.. or doing more illegal stuff like drugs.

The chances of security cameras inside a college bathroom are zero..although they may well have a camera outside and aimed on the entrance door.

I'm not sure about civil rights, but the cameras can be in the bathroom not the stalls. If it were into the stalls, there would be some violation.
Good Luck

Security cameras can not be in bathrooms or locker rooms. Any one with a camera phone cannot take pictures in either of these places . They can not be present anywhere people change clothes or bathe.

Myself I would consider this an invasion of privacy. When they say "monitored" perhaps they mean someone is assigned to keep an eye on the bathrooms.
