She was doing everything in her power to live vicariously through her daughter, no matter what impact it had on Maureen. She put so much pressure on Maureen that it was to her detriment, she ultimately pushed her daughter away because of her dreams. She was selfish and in short a witch!

I have seen the movie, I love the whole dance sequence at the end. As for her mother...I don't really recall her.
