The wii needs a router to get a wireless connection.
The Wii console is able to connect to the Internet through its built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and through a USB-to-Ethernet adaptor, with both methods allowing players to access the established Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.[1] Nintendo has stated that the console will implement standard Wi-Fi protocols. Wireless encryption by WEP, WPA and WPA2 appear to be supported.[28] Just as for the Nintendo DS, Nintendo originally stated that they will not charge fees for playing via the service[29][30] and the Friend Code system will control how players connect to one another.[31][30] This system will also be implemented for console-based software such as the Wii Message Board, for which a feature is being considered for alerting registered friends for the Wii Message Board about new games that have been purchased. The Nintendo Wii is a pretty good console, for these reasons: You don't HAVE to use the WiiMote for some games, you could use Gamecube controllers, classic controllers and the nunchuk. The Wii has loads of great Nintendo exclusives. The Wii is fun and interactive. You can play Gamecube games on it. Decent game library. The Wii is cheap compared to other systems. The Virtual Console allows you to download new games without having to buy a CD. =D

If someone else in your building has a wireless router that sends signals far enough to reach your system and if their signal isn't locked than you can definately do it that way. Otherwise you have to get a wireless router to send the signal to your Wii. I got a Linksys router with speed booster at Walmart for $70. There is no way you can connect to you DSL modem because that signal is going through the wire, not out in tha air... get it?

I think the Wii can connect via wi-fi through your PC. And wi-fi adaptors for a computer are only about £15 or $30.
Your best bet though is to get a wireless connection to your internet and the Wii picks up on that.
I hope that helps.

You need to buy a wireless router so the Wii can connect to the internet wirelessly. Right now its only used to send messages and recieve updates and browsing internet but eventually the internet capabillities will be for online multiplayer gaming.
