It comes from weakness and the feeling that one is owed something. The opportunity to take the "I am owed attitude" is more convenient when one is part of the visible minority.
It is time to let go of a long ago past and take some individual responsibility.
But society is not helping when you have black public figures reinforcing the race card and at the same time white public figures enabling the behaviour.
Enough of the guilt and political correctness and get on with the human race.

The best course of action concerning a situation like that is just to keep walking and ignore the person. I bet you anything that before she ran into you, she ran into the standard, issue mean, and disrespectful White people that are running around out there.
Before you get heated read on. Don't get me wrong. I believe that the only reason anyone of color is alive today in this country is because the MAJORITY of whites are not a bunch of heartless, racist people. It's that ill-conceived minority of Whites that give the whole white race a bad name.
You know who they are. They are the mean white people you meet at the stores. They are the mean white cops you have to deal with. They are the mean white students that you deal with in the university or high schools.
The same goes for the Black, Asian, and other races out there. The MAJORITY of the each of these races want to pursue the so-called American dream. They pay there taxes. They work hard at their jobs, and all they want is a slice of the good life, and some opportunity for their kids, but the minority of each group, are a bunch of xenophobic, racists, hateful, ignorant, idiotic creeps who wreck everything for everyone. What's worse is the media pays attention to them.
We have all been so fooled.
Kinda depressing actually.

This particular lady over reacted. Maybe SHE'S the racist or had a bad run in with a white guy who was racist. (or both) Due to the history of this country white ppl tend to be toward the top of the list of "most likely to be racist" not matter how untrue it is. But what ppl always miss is not every white person participated in the crap that went on in our country toward non-whites. For instance, during slavery there were quakers who helped the slaves.
I'm not justifing what she did cause she was dead wrong, but that's why I THINK it feels like white ppl are always being considered racist.
Just a thought

Its a very simple answer to this...
Generally speaking, racist bigots tend to be in ethnic minorities, black people are probably the worst for it.
They have the biggest chip on their shoulder about being black, and really only use it as a reason to excuse their lazy thuggish behaviour - they cry oppression yet they freely act in the way you describe in your question.
I don't know any white person who would have acted like that woman, even the right-wing white people who don't like black people wouldn't be so rude as to vent their spiel in public.
White people are suppose to feel guilty for the slave trade 200 years ago, but if you read up on the slave trade, black people had it before white people - and white people were victims of it. Read up on the Barbary Coast and the white slave trade.
Obviously not all black people are like that woman, but from my experience, more black people are racist than whites.
In the UK 70% of racist attacks are on white people, yet the media only seems to cover racist attacks against minorities. This only serves to perpetuate the belief that white people are racist, when in fact it has been show statistically that minorities are much much worse.
Ignore it and get one with your life, over time the facts will make their way into the media and the true racists will be shown.

Oh that woman was just ignorant person probably, not all Black people feel that way or act that way towards White people. She was probably self conscious about her weight, felt embarrassed and took it out on you bringing race into it. Don't judge every person as a representation of the whole entire race, she is a individual just like everyone.

People can be ignorant. What if she had been white and went into a rage against you calling you down because of your age. Skin colour is just an obvious target for some ignorant person to vent on.
Idiots and arseholes come in all sizes and colours.

yea you acted accordingly. however, like a person said before me, dont use the actions of one person to generalize the thoughts and viewpoints of an entire race.
as for everyone thinking that all white people are racists, this isn't really the case. however, like someone said before me, the track record for western civilization isn't really the cleanest (imperialism, the transatlantic slave trade, etc). there needs to be some frank and truthful talk about race on the planet period because everyone is racist to their own degree.

Don't let it bother you. Her opinion is worthless if she's willing to sling hate around like that. It's always amazing when people call other people racist WHILE making a racially generalized and rude statement. Forget her. She's not worth your time. As for *why*? Because this world is full of buttfaces. The trick is not to let them get under your skin.
