why do some people feel better about themselves by making others feel inferior or hurt? I am personally a sensative girl who reacts very strongly to insults and critism. i want people to like me ect. If i am put in a place of power or controll I feel scared and doubt myself. I cant imagine why on earth making people feel bad could make others feel better??

It really doesn't make them feel better, it just makes them feel like they have a small amount of power, power, for which, you give them, every time they hurt you. Being sensitive isn't a bad thing, but you need a little fire to go with your ice. Develop comebacks for these people, and understand that they are not your superiors. The fact that they do have to put you down, makes you their superior, because you don't have to do that. I am sorry that there are people like that in this world. Good Luck!!!!

Because, relatively, they are superior.

Or they like watching people squirm, knowing that it was them who caused the squirming.

Or they like the idea that because they made you feel inferior, they are now superior than you are.

Don't mind them, they really have no self-confidence if they resort to this to feel better.

Yet, even though they have no real self-confidence, they're not as nice as you are.

So hey, don't let it get to your head. Does it really matter what they say? You know they're doing it just to make themselves feel better, so obviously, it isn't true.

Some people had really, really nasty childhoods. Their parents were probably nasty to them, or worse, ignored them, so they get their kicks from abusing people. It's hard for good people to understand but, there's a lot of people out there who don't have a sense of decency or empathy, and therefore feel nothing about hurting someone else.

See: prisons.

That's the only way very immature people who are very insecure can feel good about themselves. To point out others falws makes their own seem less important or noticeable

It is a matter of screwed up thinking.....

eg. If I feel bad about me but I can make you feel worse about you, then I don't feel so bad about me because you are worse.

Look closely. It may sometimes be only that they are trying to inspire you, not belittle. Sometimes.
