In many areas, particularly suburban ones, people have both a front and back yard of decent size. I had the following idea after realizing there are some neighbours of mine I would like to meet.
People place their patio furniture in their backyards. People seem to enjoy the privacy of their backyards, although some barbeque and entertain in a park, or on a beach...public areas - so I thought, why don't people do this stuff in their front yards? I imagine it would be a good way to meet people. If you were the only person on your street to do this, people would probably just think you're an oddball, but if everyone did it, I could see getting used to it.
One day I would like to see everyone putting their patio chairs, tables, lawnchairs, etc in their front yards. I think it would be a good way to meet the neighbours. What do you think?

I would say that is a very good idea, from a social stand point. People usually have those things in their back yard for privacy, so that they can have a social gathering without the whole neighborhood knowing. But if the purpose was to meet people, I don't see any reason it couldn't be in the front.
just my opinion

Great idea, but you're going to have to publicize it more than just ask a question on Yahoo! Answers.
In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, the government bans front porches as a way to stop people from talking with other people. They're trying to get people up and moving, so they won't be thinking. This is a bit extreme, but I don't want it happening. I'm all for your idea.

Ok, call me crazy, but I actually have lawn chairs in my front yard. It is a rural area, but I live in a large neighborhood, complete with an apartment complex. I also say hello to everyone who walks by, most, if not all, reply. I think it is a great way to meet neighbors, as long as you trust your gut and don't do anything unsafe.

That is a good way to meet neighbors, but you must realize that some people want privacy and don't wont to be disturbed by neighbors. But yeah, if you want to meet people, then by all means take a lawn chair and some lemonade and sit down and enjoy the shade and greet people that walk by.

Already do that here. But, we have to put everything up to keep the buggie man away at night. It's great.

That's a neat idea, but I can't see it happening.
It'd be really cool if that did happen, though.
We'd socialize more.
