Well, naturally, I must suggest that you discuss it with your doctor.
However, I would say that if your doctor doesn't have any valid concerns, I'm all for it!!! Women do still die in childbirth, and if your family history shows a potential for problems, I'd say, just plan it, and be done with it. I would try to avoid being put under for the procedure, as that carries its own risks.
Alternately, if your doctor doesn't approve, ask him/her about an epidural. This takes away the pain, and therefore makes natural childbirth much less stressful. I have no doubt that you can handle it mentally...If you can handle having a man around long enough to get pregnant, you can handle childbirth!!

Pros-
You choose the time and day of birth
You don't have all the pain and time of being in labor
You choose the doc
Very close monitoring
Cons-
Longer recovery time
You go home in pain and still have a newborn to take care of
Scars that could lead to problems later on in other pregnancies or even later on in life
Higher chance of having a hysterectomy
Very painful after surgery since it is a MAJOR surgery
Subsequent c-sections to follow
You never get the chance to experience labor and delivery
Larger blood loss
I had to have a c-section with my first daughter after 12 hours of labor due to her size and positioning. I felt lik I had failed as a women. There was no control over what I could do after the doc decided to go ahead with a c-section. I was suppose to atay in the hospital for four to five days but begged and was release on day three. It was so hard to care for my baby. I hurt so bad that my mother came and staied with me for a week while my hubby was at work. I was the worst thing I have ever been through. I am 24 weeks pregnant with baby number two and he is anteriorly placed on him placenta over my c-section scar. We (me and my ob) are hopeing for a succesfull VBAC but we wont be ablt to medically make the best desicion until after I have an ultrasound done on week 32-34, if I can saftely keep him in there until then. Good Luck and I hope all this will help you in making your desicion, but remember no matter what anyone says if your doc allows elective c-sections then you must make the best decsion for you and your baby.

Honey, there have been a lot of medical advances since your mom gave birth and I don't think that similar childbirths occur in families, My mom always complains that I was early, I made her throw up in the delivery room, as did my brother and sister, and that was nothing like my daughter's birth- she was four days late and I didn't throw up. It just might be that you will be different in birth than the rest of your family.
I guess that the positives are that you will know when you will have your baby, and you will be in hospital in plenty of time to meet your baby.
Negative side is that it is MAJOR abdominal surgery and it will take longer to recover. You will be more vulnerable to infection too, and on top of your pain, you have a newborn to care for, which is stressful even when you're not recovering from surgery.
But, you need to talk this through properly at your antenatal appointments and have all your reasons looked at before a decision will be made as to whether it is right for.
Whatever happens, I wish you a happy healthy pregnancy and birth :)

well there are alot of ways they can help you during your labour to make it less painfull for you..i dont really think they can give you a c-section unless there is a medical reason why,but if you can get it done do it coz i had one and it was a breeze but the after pain is much worse than it would be if u had a normal birth i was in SOOO much pain after my c-section and the pain didnt go away for about 2-6 weeks thats normal recovery time for a c-section..positives for a natural birth are that ur in pain for a few hours and u can walk around soon after birth take a shower etc then u get to go home and u dont have a huge cut in ur belly with c-section u cant walk around properly without screaming in pain or walking like a snail lol and u cant take a shower the first day ur pretty much bed ridden untill ur pain stops regardless of the meds they give u..

Elective c-sections are frowned upon by most OB/GYN's. There is obviously risk to Mom and baby. You have a longer recovery time and there is a slight risk of uterine rupture in future pregnancies. You also have a higher risk of infection. Don't let anyone elses pregnancy experiences influence you. Everyone is different. Take a Lamaze Class. Give your body a chance to show you what it can do! You can receive an epidural if it is too much pain and of course you can always have a c-section if any complications arise. Good luck and congrats!

What one woman goes through with child birth doesn't mean that you will go through the same, alot of different factors can cause problems in childbirth, and perhaps your mother had some of them.
But just because she had them doesn't mean that you will have the same issues...
When your in labour, your Doc will know whats best for you, if the baby is in trouble or if there are complications, these days, doctors dont take chances, so the chances are, if you run into trouble you will have a c/section.
I have had 2 babies naturally, both times I had complications, but with the right guidance and experienced doctors and midwives I had 2 very beautiful girls.

Well it takes a while to heal after a c-section, longer hospital stay too. During c-sections, you are usually awake.. don't think I would want to be cut open if I am awake. Usually it is much better (health-wise) having a vaginal birth for both you and baby, unless the ob-gyn states that it is necessary for you to have one. Vaginal birth isn't painful as many people say it is. Both my boys were born vaginally and all I felt was pressure, due to an epideral. My friend had all 3 of her kids via c-section and said you feel pressure as they deliver the baby.

when your baby goes through you your body squeezes all the liquid out of the baby lungs and throat which is benificial helps with the babys breathing and i think it helps them not devolp asma birth sucks but seriously you forget everything the moment after your baby is born i was walking right away and i had sex within 3 weeks after baby if you need a c-section they can change it after go for the natural child birth and if that doesn't work they'll know let your baby take the extra time if they want it they'll probably be less cranky if they are ready to come out and go into labour naturally good luck

Well first off-- dont be scared. A women's body is designed to do this. When the time comes you will open up like a flower and your baby will birth with no problems.
Cons to c-sections:
During the natural labor process the baby is exposed to different bacteria that are naturally found in the birth canal and in fecal matter. These flora (good bacteria) enter the baby and live in its GI tract. If the baby is born thru c-section it isn't exposed to these flora and have further chance of becoming ill and developing infections.
Also, when you have a c-section the baby is often taken away while your epidural wears off. It is recommended that you breastfeed your baby within the first 15 min. after birth- because your first breast milk is full of vital nutrients your baby needs right off the bat. often your only able to do this after the epidural has worn off.
C-sections are un-natural- and prevent you from undergoing the "rights of passage" we could say that women go thru when giving birth. I don't see how you wouldn't want to do what your body is made for? Giving birth is truly a blessing.
Pro's:
You get to pick when the baby comes. Thats all.
BEST OF LUCK!!!!

C section takes a long time to heal and you put yourself at a greater risk for future problems. Women have been giving birth since the beginning of time. Most Dr's wont allow you to electively do a c-section because insurance doesn't want to pay!!
