The basic levels of organisation are - from least complex to most complex:
Cell - the atomal unit in biology
Tissue - a collection of interconnected and similar cells with a similar function
Organ - A collection of discrete but distinct tissues which are involved in performing a basic function (eg a skeletal muscle is composed of blood, nerve and contractile tissues)
Organ System - A collection of organs that regulate or control a common function. (eg the nervous system).
