I work with a person who will frequently give me instruction or tell me a story about an event and then a week or even a month later proceed to tell me the exact same story or give me the exact same instruction for the very same task that I've been performing for months as if I had never heard it before. I used to pass this off as him being absent minded, but could it be that this guy just likes to hear himself talk? What is the meaning of this?

My husband does it all of the time. It usually happens when he is concentrating on something or when he is really excited or upset about something. Drives me up the wall! I think it's because he can't stop thinking about something, so he has to say it to try to get it out of his mind.

If he never asked you if he had said anything like this before, then two possibilities come to my mind. 1. He is quite forgetful. Or 2. This may be a sign of a possible mental illness. Either way, I strongly urge you to get this person to have a psychiatric examination. I hope my answer helps you.
