alright... back in the 1900s we spoke of the year like nineteen something... "nineteen thirty six," "nineteen sixty nine," "nineteen eighty four"... that sorta thing. we do the same for the 1800s and every century for a ways back. my question is when do you think people will start using the word "twenty" instead of saying "two thousand." its just faster. my guess is when we get into the teens. saying "twenty sixteen" is faster than saying "two thousand sixteen." what are your thoughts? we'll switch the way we say it eventually, thats for sure.

It will begin to switch over at 2010. The problem is not the 20 it is the zero. Twenty "oh" nine is awkward.

A s soon as the number sounds unique. For example twenty nine could be 20 09 or 29. But twenty ten must be 20 10

Some people do...

But probably when the last two digits start with something other than zero. It's just cumbersome to say "Twenty Oh Six". When it's "Twenty Ten" or "Twenty Seventeen", it'll be a little easier to get off the tongue.

People are already using it-- in Malaysia, they talk about their twenty twenty plan or twenty eleven plan.

Your question should also ask: which places do they already say twenty instead of two thousand.

I think after 2009 because at that number it will be obvious someone is not saying "twenty-nine"

I think it will happen after we get to 2010, because we won't have to say 20 - 0 - something.
