The Roman naturalist, Pliny, used the name galena to describe lead ore.

It is impossible to answer this question with any detail. Galena was known to the Ancient Greeks and the Romans as a primary ore of lead (PbS) which they smelted down to produce the metal lead.
Strong heating does not produce melting and boiling but breaks the material down into its component parts of lead and sulphur (as SO2)
