I've been living in Japan for 8 years and can say it varies greatly from person to person and many people I've known have had different experiences based on their own pre-conceived ideas and perceptions. Some Japanese see foreign friends/partners as status symbols, others are flat out racist. As far as Japanese girls hating their own race, it may have more to do with society's expectation of Japanese women in the family role that makes marriage to Westerners more appealing.
The most important thing to remember is that despite Japan's reputation for collectivism and group think, people's opinions and attitudes are truly different, and who you encounter will really define your experience here.
Good luck in looking for a job. The school year starts in April here, so being here in late Feb or Mar will be a good time to apply.

If I answer this question based on the way you asked it, the answer is simple: No.
The problem here is that you make it sounds like ALL Japanese people (what is it now? 168 Million??) ONLY like ALL FOREIGNERS so they can learn English.. You really should try some adverbs such as "many", "most", "some", "few", etc.. With a question like this, it's hard to know what you really want to know.
I will make a few statements which I know to be true based also on living here 8 years.
Statement 1: Some Japanese people seek to meet and befriend English-speaking non-Japanese people for language and culture exchange.
Statement 2: Some Japanese girls are frustrated with their lives in Japan and in some cases, search out non-Japanese partners as a form of escape.
Statement 3: (my favorite) Hooking up with a hot girl under the pretense of "Sure I will teach you English!" is an age-old strategy for us "foreigners" here and it has served many of us very well.
Statement 4: You can ask all the questions about Japan and Japanese people you want but until you actually get here and start living, whatever you imagine will be very very far from the truth. Get over here and start drinking!

Actually I don't see many American cars today compared to the bubble economy time. Ford, Chevy, Cadillac, where they gone? Of course there are some in Tokyo.
As for foreign cars, European cars are much popular. You can find BMW and Mercedez everyday on the street.
When you watch Japanese TV program, you will notice most riches hold Ferrari, Volvo, and Porche, etc. Of course Lexus as well.
Japanese infatuated with America?. I don't think and find so. Only teens and young Japanese (basically they are school boys and girls who are learning English at the moment) say so. They can't express their real feeling, cos they don't speak English well. That's why they say something like "Teacher, I like America." And they can only count popular cultural facts up.
(oh guys, you show the pics of BMW, Mercedez and some Super cars, and ask girls if they know what country produce them. Probably they don't know it's European. )
The attitude of adult Japanese and Univ. students are contrary and various, however, they don't show you their real feeling (as someone says.). I think Asian tends not to show and express real feeling directly. This was same when I was in China. It was 没问题 "no problem" and 没关系 "It's alright" culture.
Anyway, you will face the fact someday.
Your question is seen as if the song "Daydream Believer" of The Monkeys, to me.
I prefer "Let it be," of the Beatles.

People in Japan are different. Some like foreigners just so they can practice their English. Some like foreigners because they truly want a friend from another country. For Japanese girls, it depends. I liked Phil's explanation about different expectations with foreign men.

They look for good performances and good attitude also the ability to learn to speak Japanese fast and communicate well for hiring foreigners.
but if you are going to be a language instructor, it is good to be a multi-lingual, better opportunity and better company, lots of translating offer and you can just stay at home. There are many Language Instructors there, and they shared some of their experiences and knowledge about teaching..good to hear from them whether it would plus or minus the expectations.
About girls... they are always nice IF treated nice no matter what races you are

Actually Japan learns english when they are in third grade or pretty close. They are taugh english all the way threw school and actually have english schools that cost a lot of money to do to like in tokyo. Japanese are infatuated with america. You can tell it by the way alot of them dress and how they idolize american cars and such. It also depends on the age. The older Japanese are much more closed minded and will not like you untill they get to know you personally. In Japanese culture it is not and I reapeat not a status symbol to date white men. Most parents would rather them not date outside of their race and would rather them settle for a good japanese guy with the same values. Japanese women like american guys because they think they are diffrent from japanese guys, maybe to their friends it is a status thing but not to their parents. Although if you have money their parents will probably like you because they feel that you can provide for their daughter.

The whole time I was in Japan, the women were just using me for sex. I would really like to go back and get some more use. If you don't want people to attempt to practise English with you then learn this phrase- "Watashi wa Czech-jin desu". It worked well for me until I got called out by a guy who actually was Czech.

Rosetta Stone? do no longer purchase IT! i purchased the eastern RS and that i'll allow you to recognize RS is horrid. They teach you random *** words and doesn't grant you with any rationalization of the image or sentence structure. Is the girl operating or walking? Is the sentence meant to be searching on the tree, or being less than the tree? etc...., It doesn't allow you to recognize what the image ability, you may want to 'wager' what the sentence is :/

You are so lucky... I know fluent Japanese (from watching so much anime), know the current customs, and cultural history.
English words are very, very popular in Japan. That, and all highschoolers must take English in order to get into a good college.
So in Japan, knowing English is a status symbol.
