No...the house of represenative holds the power of impeachment. The Senate decides if the impeachment deserves removal from office.

The Constitution grants the right of impeachment only to the House of Representatives, while the Senate is empowered to actually try the impeached official and determine if he or she should be removed from federal office. In cases where the House of Representatives has impeached the president for "high crimes and misdemeanors" his or her trial in the Senate is overseen by the Chief Justice of the United States. A two-thirds vote of the Senate is required to remove any federal offcial from office, including the President of the United States.

No, on the Federal level, the House of Representatives is the Body that has impeachment power. Remember, impeachm, ent means that the individual has been ACCUSED of behavior which may warrant punishment up to and including removal from office.

The role of the Senate in cases of impeachment is to decide the facts----basically they act as a jury.

On the Presidential level, we've had two Presidents impeached, Andrew Johnson and Clinton, (neither of which was convicted), one who would have certainly been had he not short circuited the process by resignation (Nixon).

Now, the $64,000 question....How long until we have the next Presidential impeachment?

It depends upon the official. If you are referring to the President, Vice President who are elected, it requires both the house and the senate (ala Richard Nixon and nearly Bill Clinton). The word you are using "impeach" is a specialized word for these extreme cases.

But they have to prove that the official has done something
illegal. Oh, wait a minute, they found Clinton guilty of perjury
and didn't impeach him!!

Thank you very much, while you're up!!!
