I'm in sixth grade, and I'm stuck on some math problems. Can anyone please help? So the problem's are:
How many thirds are there in 6?
What is 2/3 of 300.

And here are some word problems:
Dawn has 6 hours this weekend to spend on her homework. If she spends 3/8 of this time on math, how many hours will she spend on here math homework.

Tony spent 1/2 of his allowance on video rentals. Then he spent $2.50 on a magazine and he had $5.75 left. How much was his allowance.

I'm not asking for the answers here, I'm asking you how to do it. If anyone can help, THANK YOU!!!!

On the last one you would have to add what he had left to the cost of the magazine. That's half of his allowance since he spent the other half on videos. You can figure out what the whole thing is if you know half of it.

1. Start with a simpler problem: How many thirds are there in 1? Well, there are 3 thirds in 1 (1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1). So, then you are well on your way to getting the number of thirds in 6.
2. To get 2/3 of 300, do a multiplication: (2/3) * 300 = (2 * 300) / 3. This is similar to #2. Do (3/8) * 6. This gives 18/8, which reduces to 9/4. Then, you'll have to convert this into hours and minutes.
4. Start with Tony's allowance = X.
X/2 = amount Tony spent on video rentals.
The remaining amount is also X/2, and is equal to $2.50 + $5.75. This should get you most of the way.

**how many thirds are there in 6?**
this doesnt make sense to me .. there are *three*thirds in everything. Take six marbles and group them in three equal groups. each of those is a third.

**what is 2/3 of 300**
divide 300 by three (300/3). Multiply that number by two. that is 2/3 of 300.

**dawn has 6 hours this weekend ..**
start with 6 hours and multiply it by * 3/8. so you would have 6/1 * 3/8. Multiply the numerator straight across and then the denominator straight across.

**tony spent 1/2 of his allowance .. **
work backwards on this one. add $5.75 (leftover) and $2.50 (magazine). that is how much money he had before the video rental. Multiply that number by 2 and that would be his allowance.

1. 18
2. 2hours 25 mins
3. 16.50

there prob wrong!! emmm so for one ehh i knew that there are 3 thirds in one so simply multiply 6 by 3!

two, eight eights (which is a whole) i equal to 6 hours so divide 6 by 8 to find out one then multiply by three to find three eights.

okay so half of tonys allowance is already gone so he is obviously left with the second half...so add up 2.50 and 5.75 to find one half then multiply by to to find the whole allowance!

i am real sorry if i am wrong but i tried!!! :)

2) (2/3) x300= 2/3 x 300/1=just multiply across then reduce

3/8 x 6/1=multiply across then reduce if possible

work backwords. 5.75 + 2.5= 8.25 x 2 =

Draw a circle and cut it into six slices. Then count how many thirds are in it. Divide six by two.

You divide 300 by 2/3. You can cross multiply.

Use cross multiplication when dividing.

Add 5.75 and 2.50 together and then multiply it by two.
